Tour Egypt Travel® will pick you up from your hotel in Amman
then drive you about 30 kilometers to Madaba town. The city located in
central Jordan is known for the Byzantine and Umayyad
mosaics art especially a large Byzantine-era mosaic map of The Holy
Land. Madaba Mosaic Map is kept in the Greek
Orthodox Basilica of Saint George and dated back to
the 6th century. It is 2 million colored stone pieces mosaic
depicting the area between Palestine and Nile Delta. Back
to our cars to take a short drive to Mount Nebo. The mount is the site of the endearing monastery
(discovered in 1933), where Moses is thought to be buried. From here Prophet Moses
overlooked the Promised Land after 40 years in the desert, and Nebo
is his alleged burial site. Enjoy the view of the Holy Land (if weather
is clear) and get indulged among lots of mosaics inside the early Christian
church of Mount Nebo. Head back to Amman, known as Rabbath-Ammon
(also Rabat Amon) in the Old Testament. Then visit the Citadel
hill with remains of the Hercules Temple and the Umayyad Palace
as well as the Archaeological Museum. In downtown we see the
large Roman Theatre from 2nd century and its traditional
souks. Return to your Amman hotel.
